Iris sibirica

Siberian Iris

Irises of all types have an ephemeral quality in their flowers, to me. They are exquisite and delicate, but almost as soon as they arrive, they seem to be preparing to depart. Siberian irises, however, have foliage that contributes a sense of riparian lushness both before and after they bloom, and they are not so fussy about their growing conditions as bearded irises. Not that I would ever go without those— but for dependability and easy maintenance, Siberian irises are hard workers.
