Lobelia erinus

Bedding Lobelia

It’s commonly sold as an annual, but lobelia is actually a tender perennial. Planted out in the garden, in our climate, some years it comes back and performs beautifully, and in others it does not. In a container stored in a semi-protected place, your chances are better for overwintering them. Some have trailing habits while others are more mounding—these are great in containers or as bedding plants. They bloom best in sun, but need the soil to be kept moist; and they will bloom well enough to brighten up a shady in a container.
